Ibiza World Heritage
In December 1999 the World Heritage committee of UNESCO declared Ibiza “World Heritage”.
With more than 700 cultural and natural sites already protected worldwide, the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO is working to make sure that future generations can inherit the treasures of the past. And yet, most sites face a variety of threats, particularly in today’s environment. The preservation of this common heritage concerns us all.
The Ibiza World Heritage declaration included the fortifications of the city of Eivissa, the cemetery of Puig des Molins, the Phoenician settlement of sa Caleta and the prairies of Posidonia of the Ses Salines Natural Park.
To celebrate this prestigious international recognition, the Eivissa Town Council organises in the second weekend of May a wide programme dedicated to culture and entertainment. The Eivissa Town Council organises regular guided tours through the streets of the historical Dalt Vila and the districts of la Marina and sa Penya.
