<img align="right" image775" src="http://www.ibizabound.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/04/ibizacicloturismo.gif" alt="ibizacicloturismo.gif" />Eivissa landscape and heritage are two great unknown despite visitors welcomed by the island each year. Beaches and night clubs capture the attention of visitors, but the inland, its architecture and vestiges of the past represent an ensemble as or even more attractive to tourists looking forward to know a place further than its more superficial aspects. Cyclotourism routes shall take you through spots where you shall discover the idiosyncrasy of the island. Itineraries along not busy at all roads with different difficulty levels to meet the demands and preferences of professional cyclists, amateurs, families or groups of friends looking forward to enrich their visit to the island.
Cyclotourism routes allow getting to know different spots of heritage interest in the Pitiüses. Rural churches, the impressing architectonical ensemble of Eivissa city, meeting points that hide legends and were places to meet and celebrate in the rural world; caves, natural formations used in the past by several of the people inhabitants of the island as sanctuary for their rites; mills, vestiges of a way of life lost nowadays, and defence towers that for centuries acted as reference points to protect the islands from the countless invasions they suffered.
If there is something characterizing Eivissa and Formentera, this is a natural environment that stills wonders visitor, who most of the times, has a slanting knowledge of the Pitiüses as synonymous with beaches and sun. But it is not so. The inland of the island is a mosaic of green colours (trees and bushes), ochre and reddish (cultivation lands and dry stone walls), that combine in February with white colour of almond tree flowers. The coast is further more than just creeks. It is a landscape of sharp cliffs of chalky rocks sculpted by the sea and the wind that shape unique landscapes of great beauty. On the bicycle and through alternative tracks is the best way to get to know this natural environment.

For more information on routes and places of interest, you can visit the excellent Ibiza and Formentera Cicloturismo website.

It all began as in 1973 the resort management thought it would be a nice idea to give the local hippies a chance to peddle their goods to a small resident population of tourists spending a few days on holiday in Club Punta Arabí. From the initial 6 stands in 1973, Maggie selling her wonderful cakes , a lady coming from Formentera to sell her warm woolly sweaters, some guy selling puppies, another person selling indian jewelry and children swapping toys to the rhythm of violins, guitars and jam sessions; the “mercadillo” has developed into a full fledged life-support-system for many families and businesses on the island.
The market is colourful and international, the stands sell every item you can imagine. Don´t miss out to pay a visit during your staying in Ibiza, WEDNESDAY is the day.

<img align="right" image563" src="http://www.ibizabound.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/02/aniv.jpg" alt="aniv.jpg" />The 20th edition of the popular nautical event “Ruta de la Sal” will be held between the 5th and 8th April.
Every year the Ruta de la Sal mobilizes more than 2000 competitors and a really mixed boat fleet sails the Mediterranean in commemoration of last century’s crossings in search of white gold – the salt of life !
The Ruta de la Sal is the deep sea regatta with the highest participation in the Mediterranean and the most important thing is that it has maintained the fascination of the first time. The crossings are long and are undertaken in a time of year which is meteorologically complicated. This provides the attraction of adventure and the incentive of classifying is in itself already a victory.
Traditionally the regatta opens in Easter the tourist season in Ibiza.

<img align="left" image468" src="http://www.ibizabound.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/08/cycle%20post.jpg" alt="cycle post.jpg" />Ibiza is famous for its clubbing scene, beautiful beaches, many of the prestigious blue flag award, and a fast growing rural hotel sector.
However this year has seen a massive amount of interest generated in outdoor sporting activities.
The tourist authorities working with the Island and Local Government have made enormous strides in the area of cycle tourism. Ibiza is now criss-crossed with hundreds of kilometres of clearly marked cycle routes which guide riders effortlessly through our beautiful countryside or round the rugged coastline.
There are 20 well planned routes which traverse mountains or more gentler roads, and which pass by the hidden corners of the island taking in ancient wells, monuments, ruins, watch towers and windmills.
Each route has an information board showing the points of interest along the way, and equally as important, the gradient.
Town Halls and tourist offices stock leaflets showing the cycle routes, or information can be obtained from the website Ibiza Cicloturismo, which is currently only in Spanish.
And as most routes just happen to have the odd bar on them, stopping for a cool drink or lunch makes cycling a real pleasure.

<img align="right" image227" src="http://www.ibizabound.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/03/PORTADA.jpg" alt="PORTADA.jpg" />From April 13 to 16, coinciding with Easter weekend, a new edition of the regatta for sailing cruisers “<a href="http://www.larutadelasal.com"target="_blank">“La Ruta de la Sal”” will take place. This event remembers the trips to the island to collect salt, an important source of income for the Pitises islands before the arrival of tourism as main source of income when it was called the “white gold”.
The regatta starts from two different ports, the Reial Club Maritim de Barcelona and the Club Nautic de Denia, and both end in the port of Eivissa. The route from Barcelona is free, but the route from Denia to the harbour of Eivissa town, is keeping the islands of Formentera and Tagomago on port side. This year the list of accepted inscriptions includes over 300 boats and 2,200 crew members.

This excursion in Ibiza is accomplished with a minimum of 2 people and a maximum of 4 (although only two are allowed on board) and a flight lasts approximately 40 minutes.
The journey is usually organized during the first hours in the morning or three hours before the sunset.

At the end of the flight you will be given a proper certificate for your “batism of the air” with champagne and snacks. <a href="http://www.ibizafrisbeeclub.com/"target="_blank">Ibiza Frisbee Club, a group of Frisbee enthusiasts, have recently launched a website to offer information, tricks and tips, hard to find Quality Frisbees and sporting items aiming to build a a Frisbee Community based in Ibiza.
From their headquarter in Playa Figueral (near by Santa Eularia) they plan to organize regular meetings from first timers to Zen masters and exhibitions of great players from around the world.
We immediately bought the idea as we think Ibiza really needs new exciting initiatives outside the clubbing sphere. We will definitely participate at their future events.
